This stunning, hand-made, Voutilainen GMT-6 watch is in mint condition and has perfect mechanical functionality. This unique, white-gold, horological piece is made entirely at the Voutilainen workshop in Môtiers, near Geneva. It comes as a full set.
The watch was delivered in 2017 and has four different engine-turned patterns on the silver, two-tone dial. Each pattern reflects light differently, giving the dial a mixture of tones and fantastic depth. Applied index-markers, a GMT-disc at six o’clock (with day/night indication), and steel Breguet-style hands make up the face. A hand-sewn, dark-brown alligator strap and Kari Voutilainen's signature tear-shaped lugs finish off this fantastic timepiece; showing both the watchmaker's uncompromising attention to detail and craftsmanship. The watch is accompanied by a second dial - featuring a copper outer-edge and identical patterning.
The GMT indication is displayed on the disk situated at six o’clock, inside the printing of the small-seconds. The disc shows 24 hours and includes a day/night indicator. The GMT function is almost concealed, owing to its exceptionally-precise and neat integration. The disc is advanced by pressing the crown, moving the disc forward by one hour with each engagement. The dial is made from solid-silver and engine-turned by hand in the Voutilainen workshop.
While inspiration for the GMT-6 movement comes from the Vingt-8, the GMT mechanism is entirely integrated within the calibre 28. The movement features Voutilainen's direct impulse-escapement with two escape wheels. The exceptionally large, free-sprung balance beats at 2.5Hz, held in place by a long steel bridge with rounded arms. The 39 mm case is white gold, and features Voutilainen's signature teardrop lugs.
The sapphire crystal on the reverse allows one to see inside the movement, revealing the rich palette of hues and forms. The in-house Cal. 28 is made from German silver and titanium. Through the combination of a free-sprung balance, with Breguet over-coil and Grossmann interior curve, and signature direct impulse escapement with two large (13.6mm) escapement wheels, a high degree of engineering ingenuity is accomplished. One of the hallmarks of Voutilainen as a manufacture is their superlative hand-finishing; with expert anglage and a mixture of polished, brushed and frosted surfaces. The aesthetics of the movement are as impressive as the mechanics. The watch has a 64-hour power reserve.
